The 2020 PACK Cup (a men’s scratch match play interclub event for over 55 year olds between Pymble, Pennant Hills, Avondale, Concord and Killara) commenced on Sunday afternoon at Pymble in what could best be described as wet and wild conditions with Concord pitted against Killara.

Killara are the defending champions and probably this year’s favourites with their team having been strengthened by some new blood coming up into their team.
In the end it was a 4-4 tied result with Concord’s top end showing the way, supplemented by a great win from Pete Stephens (4 and 3) down the order.

The top 3 of Grant Wilson at number 1 (winning 4 and 3), Ian Crichton at number 2 (winning 1 up) and the evergreen Jim Blackadder at number 3 (winning 1 up) were outstanding with Grant successful against a player who has been undefeated over the past 2 years and both Ian and Jim winning on the last hole on pressure when anything less would have delivered the overall match to Killara – in fact Jim chipped in on the last hole to win his match, with his opponent heard to say that Jim was the best chipper he has ever seen (I’m now chasing Jim for a lesson).

Next week we are off to Killara to play Avondale, which has been our nemesis for several years.
